Staff and guests of the former Citadel Halifax Hotel have generously raised $7,478 over the past two years for the QEII Foundation’s pancreatic cancer research fund.
The funds were raised over the holiday season through the hotel’s Friends in
Need Program, an annual campaign where a portion of the room rate is donated to the staff’s charity of choice.
Last year, the staff decided to support the pancreatic cancer research fund at the QEII after learning about it through the advocacy and fundraising work of the all-volunteer run Craig’s Cause Society, which supports pancreatic cancer research at the QEII . This year, the staff turned to their Facebook fans and asked them to choose what cause they should support. Pancreatic cancer research was their top choice.
Funds raised for pancreatic cancer over the past year have been dedicated to support three pancreatic cancer research projects at the QEII, one which is already underway. The current project seeks to understand pancreatic cancer patients’ preference for treatment. The other two projects aim to evaluate quality of care for pancreatic cancer patients in Nova Scotia. One study focuses on surgical care, while the other looks at overall care during a patient’s journey with cancer.
