Surrounded by her co-workers, Anna Tillett was taken by surprise when she was named an Angel in Action. Anna is a Social Worker on the 5th floor of the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre where she works with inpatients and outpatients living with spinal cord injuries and neurological illnesses. In collaboration with patients and their families, she works to find and access resources to improve their quality of life. She also supports patients by advocating for them individually and systemically.
Anna expressed that “it is very humbling and motivating to be hon
oured. Every day I am grateful that patients are so generous in sharing their stories with me. I really enjoy my work and it is encouraging that I made a positive difference in someone’s health care journey. This honour is one I share with my interdisciplinary team as well as my colleagues and mentors in the social work department.”
Marilyn MacDonald, Health Services Manager, Social Work, describes Anna as “passionately committed to her patients and their families, striving to ensure their experience of care is truly holistic. Anna’s commitment and leadership to improving care to her patients was recently demonstrated by her work in developing a formal peer support program for people with amputations.”
