March 2009 - As a porter in the Veterans’ Memorial Building, Kevin helps escort veterans to and from their recreation programs. With 20 years of service, his kind, yet effective approach with the veterans was why the Recreation Therapy Department at Veterans’ Memorial nominated Kevin as an Angel in Action.
In their nomination, they describe Kevin as someone who “goes above and beyond the expectations of a porter. He demonstrates great patience, caring and compassion and uses a solid approach when interacting with veterans, taking into account their needs and certainly demonstrating veteran centered care”. Those kind words were echoed by Chris Stilwell, Kevin’s team leader. “Kevin mixes intelligence, an easy going demeanor and a great sense of humor with his breadth of knowledge and experience.”
When presented with his Angel pin, Kevin said he was humbled and that he “really just enjoys seeing the ‘fellows’ every day”.
